For info: www.theatrikos.com

As a mother and friend to many women (including myself) that have had a range of experiences with infertility issues – from funny ovulation test stories to heart-breaking grief from the loss of a baby and infinite joy when a child finally arrives – I cannot wait to see the upcoming play from the Theatrikos Theater Company, Expecting Isabel. Check out this preview of Lisa Loomer’s award-winning comedy, to be performed at The Doris Harper-White Community Playhouse in Flagstaff, Arizona June 5th through the 21st.

Under the direction of Lisa Brink, the play features 8 actors playing more than 35 roles. Expecting Isabel is a comedy about the booming baby business of the late 1990s. Miranda and Nick try any means necessary to have a baby, from traditional lovemaking, to fertility drugs, in-vitro fertilization, support groups, self-help books, medical specialists and adoption. The couple is tested repeatedly as their quest for parenthood begins to affect their careers, their marriage and their finances.

Because of its adult themes, Expecting Isabel is not recommended for children.

Winner of the American Theatre Critics Association Award for Best New Play 1999, Expecting Isabel also received the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays award for 1998 and the Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play. A playwright, screenwriter, actress and comedian, Loomer co-wrote the screenplay for the Academy Award-winning Girl, Interrupted (which featured Angelina Jolie in an Oscar-winning performance).

The play will be performed Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm (June 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20), and Sunday matinees at 2pm (June 7, 14, 21).

Tickets are just $17 for evening performances, and $15 for matinee performances. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Theatrikos box office (11 W. Cherry from noon-5:30 Tuesday through Friday), or at (928) 774-1662.
