When I was young, I loved Maurice Sendak’s book, A Hole is to Dig. Inside this first book of first definitions, simple-yet-oh-so-wise explanations like The ground is to have a garden and The world is so you have something to stand on could have easily concluded, as I have, that Summer is for farmer’s markets. I imagine that you wrote this article prior to visiting the Twilight Farmers Market, being held at the Citadelle in Glendale (59th & 2 blocks south of the 101), as it is quite amazing. Something like 9 local growers, artisan bakers, kids cooking classes and entertainment. It’s the best I’ve been to in the country and i’ve gone to a lot of them!
