Dear Arizona Travel: When does the North Rim close in October?

Simple question, not-so-simple answer:
Dear Arizona Travel:
We’ll be coming to the Grand Canyon on October 12th this year. Will we still be able to get to the North Rim? Is it weather-dependent or is there a certain cutoff day in mid-October when visitors aren’t allowed? Thanks!
Jill

Hi, Jill…Great question. The closing date for the North Rim is indeed dependant on the weather and can close anytime around mid-October. However, the north rim edition of The Guide (the National Park’s publication) has events scheduled through October 15.
With your October 12th date, my guess is you’ll be some of the last North Rim visitors of the season. To be safe, my suggestion call the Grand Canyon National Park Service North Rim weather hotline at 928. 638.7888 starting the second week of October or so to see if any early winter storms might cut your plans short.
Enjoy your trip!
Christina
