Hi Terri,
Yes, there is still some construction if you take I-17 to 179 through the Village of Oak Creek. This is the most common way to Sedona from Phoenix, though it is not always the quickest. This route now has nice roundabouts that keep the traffic moving once you get into Oak Creek, but it is peak tourist time in Sedona and the sheer number of cars can have you backed up for many miles. If you don't mind not experiencing the "Ooh-Ahh!!!!" factor the occurs once you come around the bend opening up out of nowhere to the gorgeous red rocks, I suggest taking this alternate route. You will enter Sedona on the west side of town instead of the south:
I-17 north to 287 for AZ-260 toward Cottonwood/Payson/AZ-89A- Go 89A north and that is main road that runs through Sedona. This route looks like it takes longer, but in my recent experiences, it could save you over 30 minutes. Enjoy your adventure!

My sister and I will soon be in Phoenix (April 17-21, 2008), and are considering a drive to Sedona. I was there last year, and remember the main highway to Sedona bein gunder construction. Is that still ongoing?
Thank you,
Terri
